Summer Research Internship Program 2025, CUNY DSI

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: CUNY DSI SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2025

CUNY DSI’s SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM provides undergraduate and graduate students with meaningful research experience in the field of Dominican Studies. Whether training in the humanities, social sciences, or STEM, selected participants will have the opportunity to work collaboratively and under the guidance of CUNY DSI’s one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary Research Unit. They will also have access to the Dominican Library, the premier repository of bibliographic resources documenting the Dominican experience in the United States, and the Dominican Archives, the first and only archive of its kind outside of the Dominican Republic, housing over 76 unique and specialized collections that preserve the Dominican legacy in the U.S. The Institute also offers the opportunity to connect with an impressive cadre of affiliated university faculty from around the country, and abroad, who may provide mentorship to program participants as they develop research projects.

While at CUNY DSI, summer interns immerse themselves in foundational Dominican Studies texts, develop an independent research agenda, and contribute to a comprehensive research project currently underway at the Institute. Throughout the summer, they receive guidance and feedback from an array of Dominican/Latino Studies researchers trained in a wide range of fields, including but not limited to sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, philosophy, statistics, and history.

ADDITIONAL SUMMER OPPORTUNITY: PUERTO RICO ARCHIVAL COLLABORATION

CUNY DSI is pleased to announce its participation in the Puerto Rico Archival Collaboration, founded by Dr. Aldo Lauria Santiago, Professor of History and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at Rutgers University. This partnership offers one applicant the opportunity to work at the Archivo General de Puerto Rico or in the Colección Puertorriqueña of the University of Puerto Rico Library, organizing and/or digitizing important collections under the supervision of senior staff at the partner institutions. The participant will work three days a week for five weeks and have the other two days a week to pursue their own research projects with the mentoring of Prof. Lauria Santiago and the growing team of supporters and participants, including some who will offer formal introductions and guidance for research in Puerto Rico.
